Huntington County Introduces Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL)

Huntington County, Indiana, Highway Department has utilized Beacon to publish numerous sources of information to both County staff and public users. Recently, they added vehicle tracking data from the County’s Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) system.  Schneider designed a web service which provides data from the County’s source AVL system to Beacon, with updates occurring every five minutes.  The data provided through the AVL system is able to be displayed on the map with both current and historic locations, direction and speed of the vehicles.  In addition to the AVL layers,  Huntington County Highway Department has published layers such as bridges, culverts and signs.  By providing these additional layers as a resouces on Beacon for the Highway Department is able to quickly and easily search the data to report map location, reports, photos, and links to additional files.
